Jaclyn Brown: Press

With sing-along lyrics and a ripping blues guitar, Jaclyn Brown will saunter into your soul. “Built For Luxury” finds Brown comparing bodies to SUVs. A chorus of background singers cheers her on.

Brown combines a degree in jazz vocal performance with an innate sense of storytelling. “The Fallout” compares TV coverage of the war in the Middle East to the war raging between a fighting couple. The spunky “Are You Man Enough?” sings the praises of the guy who will wear a pink shirt and watch episodes of Sex In The City. Upright bass and twangy guitars give the record a country flavor, but fans of all genres will find something irresistible in Brown.
Jaclyn Brown, on her official site bio states, "I can't sing a Kid Rock song, but maybe I can write one." Although her musical sound is vastly different from Kid Rock's, Jaclyn Brown does prove she deserves recognition for her songwriting and vocal abilities on her album, "Easy Love."

Just as the title suggests, Brown creates songs that are lovely and warm. Devoid of unnecessary growling and high-pitched nonsense, the album features songs similar to a respectable novel- pure, poignant, and simple in terms of complexity.

Jaclyn Brown aims to show what life is ultimately about and what most people desire - it's "all [people] dream of—and it's love."

Jaclyn Brown's 'Unsolicited Material' is a country album, and so much more. In addition to traditional country and bluegrass, you'll also hear hints of jazz, alternative rock, and other musical styles creep in. Jaclyn's ability to tie these things together and create songs that are pleasing to the ears is undeniable. Her time under hit songwriter Chuck Cannon rubbed off; she's a very good songwriter.

The lyrics of this CD are everyday life. They are easily relatable, but not cliche. The imagery paints a clear picture of an America that seems to exist in only our imaginations anymore, back when life was simple and love, more often than not, was forever. I like that. Life is too complex anymore, and we're reminded of that every waking moment. This CD gives us a 40 minute reprieve from the sensory overload that is the new millennium we live in. Take advantage of the opportunity.

More Joni Mitchell (He's Still In Love With Me, Where Are You) than Shania Twain; more Traffic (Did You Think) than Big and Rich; more James Taylor (Then There's You) than… oh, I don't know, take your pick, Brown's folk/country pop songs offer the long lost hope that soon, very soon, there's going to be a lot less songs based on beer, sexy tractors, NASCAR, T&A , and being down on your luck in your pick up truck.

Though her voice, high and clear, is a delight to hear, those songs, including Easy Love, Don't Say and Built For Luxury are going to be hits for someone who's listening.

JACLYN BROWN

Jaclyn Brown, the proud owner of a degree in Studio and Jazz Vocal Performance, a truckload of talent, and a warm, charming smile, presents us with eight self-penned and performed country and folk-spirited pop songs. And the Nashville lady’s creations are professional, confident, and assured; she sounds well at ease and comfortable within the musical playing field she has chosen.

Opener ‘Did You Think’ is a catchy and enjoyable Eagles-tinged statement of intent, and via some rich production quality immediately showcases the ability of the Tennessee songstress; there’s strong vocals, excellent musicianship, and experienced song-writing talent. ‘I’m Built for Luxury’ adopts a bluesy approach as a vehicle for some cheeky lyrics; Jaclyn refreshingly turns the current diet-obsessed image-conscious society onto it’s head by exhibiting sympathy for the victims of this modern phenomenon: ‘When I see the perfect model on TV, I say ‘Poor little girl, she’ll never have it like me’’ and ‘Hips can be a blessing it you know what they’re for’. ‘He’s Still in Love With Me’ is a sad, poignant, and honest reflection upon a relationship which has become a one-sided love story – ‘There’s no way to let down easily/I’m not in love with him/he’s still in love with me’. And ‘Long Gone for Good’ is a clever and funny country ditty, which benefits from some imaginative lyrical tricks – ‘And you can kiss my/ask no more questions’ - and a catchy chorus too.

All eight songs here are precision performed, well written, and enjoyable expeditions into country and folk territory, and to her credit Jaclyn has a wonderful voice, an abundance of natural talent, and a winning ethos for working on her passion.

Jaclyn Brown: Unsolicited Material. The players/pickers are terrific. The lyrics are visual, specific, and cohesive. The melodies sing well and [Brown's] voice has impeccable pitch and the phrasing is real...Not a cookie cutter version of other divas."
